R.I.P. Stephen "Static/Major" Garrett (1976-2008)



Music Writer and Producer Stephen "Static/Major" Garrett has passed away at the age of 28. This is a major loss to the music industry and we send our condolences to his family and loved ones....

Most of your remember him from the trio Play from the 90's, but he worked on and produced tracks for Ginuwine, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, and Jojo. Hailing from Louisville, Ky, he produced the mega-hit "Are You That Somebody" by Aaliyah off the Dr. Dolittle Soundtrack and made an appearance in the music video. Other song writing and producing credits include:

Static later signed to Blackground Records, label home of Aaliyah and Tank, as a solo artist. He died on February 25, 2008 in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The cause of death is currently unclear, but it is thought that he may have passed away from a brain aneurysm.

We have been talking about the death and contributions of Static over at Highbrid Nation. I really am curious as to the reason why such a talented guy died so suddenly.
